St. Louis, MO, August 8, 2026 —

A man has died in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after a heroic act of saving a young girl from a dangerous rip current. The incident took place near the 10th Avenue South area on Friday evening. The man, whose identity has not been released, reportedly entered the water around 8 p.m. to rescue a child who had become caught in the strong currents.

Tragically, the rescuer was unable to make it back to shore safely. His body was discovered washed ashore the following morning, Saturday.

At the time of the incident, lifeguards were no longer on duty. Beach safety regulations often dictate lifeguard hours, and it is understood that their shift had concluded for the day prior to the event.

The young girl who was rescued is reported to be safe. Further details regarding the ongoing investigation into the drowning have not yet been made public.
